On June 14, Lanzhou launched a cultural promotion event in celebration of China's 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day along Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street. The event featured immersive exhibitions and performances, highlighting 31 intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items – from engraved gourds and Honggu black pottery to the iconic Yellow River waterwheel – with live demonstrations by master artisans.
A dedicated Lanzhou beef noodle section showcased this classic food's modernization, while traditional opera and dance lit up the performance zone. The "ICH Mall" debuted 12 culturally-inspired products like miniature waterwheel models, bridging tradition and contemporary design.
"By weaving traditional culture into modern lifestyles, we honor history while fueling cultural innovation," said a senior official of the Lanzhou Culture and Tourism Bureau. The city plans to expand cultural education programs and tourism routes to preserve these ancient crafts.
