The Lanzhou drum song is a popular folk art in the Lanzhou area, and is performed in the Lanzhou dialect. Based on folk songs from the countryside of Gansu province, it took its present form in the mid and late Qing Dynastyand was influenced by the folk art from Beijing and Shanxi province.
According to a large number of documentary records and archaeological discoveries, Fuxi culture has a history of over 8,000 years.
About 130 kilometers southwest of Lanzhou lies the famous, ancient county of Linxia -- the "Land Port of Gansu".
People wear scented sachets, Xiangbao in Chinese, on the Dragon Boat Festivalthat falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, to ward off evil spirits. Residents in Qingyang in eastern Gansu province are no exception.
The Yeguang Cup, literally "the Glittering Night Cup," is a special jade craftwork from Jiuquan in the province of Gansu in Northwest China. Jiuquan is an ancient town with a 2,000-year history.
CaiGaoqiao, orwalking on stilts, is another popular traditional performance of the Spring Festival, especially in Northern China. Cai means walking on, and Gaoqiao means stilts.
