TCM markets boost Gansu's night economy
With the rise of night economy, traditional Chinese medicine or TCM night markets have become all the rage in Dingxi city, Northwest China's Gansu province.
Adding to the appeal, a consultation doesn't require registration, nor does physical therapy require an appointment.
At Overpass Square in Anding district, the newly opened TCM night market is bustling when the evening comes. There, locals can enjoy professional TCM cupping therapies in the cupping and massage area and taste green tea with chrysanthemum, Chinese wolfberry and rock sugar in the tonic diet exhibition area.

Elsewhere, the Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dingxi Branch) is also bustling with activity. Wang Jing, associate dean of the hospital, said the hospital holds a TCM night market every Friday night and it plans to continue running it throughout the year.
Entering the first floor of the inpatient building, different kinds of services, including taking pulses, cupping and massages and tonic diet tastings, are offered.
Dingxi has enjoyed a reputation for being a medicinal town and a natural medicine storage hub since ancient times.
It is one of the main production areas for authentic medicinal ingredients in China. Over the years, Dingxi has moved to integrate its development of TCM, industry and culture.
The city's TCM night markets this year will operate longer and will be set up in seven counties and districts throughout the city compared with just Anding district previously.
