As of Oct 17, Gansu province's cumulative installed capacity of new energy sources reached 60.14 million kilowatts, accounting for nearly 64 percent of the province's total installed capacity. Both the proportion of new energy installed capacity and new energy power generation are ranked second nationwide.

Endowed with abundant wind and solar resources, Gansu boasts technically exploitable wind and solar energy capacities of 560 million kilowatts and 9.5 billion kilowatts respectively, ranking fourth and fifth in China. In recent years, Gansu has accelerated the construction of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power bases in desert and Gobi areas.

The province has already established a 10-million-kilowatt wind power base in Jiuquan, six million-kilowatt-level photovoltaic power bases in Lanzhou, Wuwei, Jinchang, Zhangye, Jiuquan, and Jiayuguan, as well as five million-kilowatt-level wind power bases in Zhangye, Wuwei, Baiyin, Dingxi, and Qingyang.
