Chengxian county of Longnan, Gansu province, has ushered in the walnut harvest season. At the local planting base, the branches of the trees are covered with large, plump walnuts.
In recent years, Chengxian has regarded walnut planting and processing as its leading characteristic industry. The county has 34,000 hectares of walnut plantations and 34 high-yield demonstration gardens. Farmers plant an average of 200 walnut trees per household and 50 trees per capita.
Honors such as "national standardized demonstration base for walnuts" and "national geographical indication certification trademark" have also become business cards for these walnuts entering into national and international markets.
From the end of 2022 to May 2023, Chengxian has exported walnut products to countries such as Russia and Japan, totaling 16 orders. This year, the walnut kernel production is estimated to hit 41,600 tons, with an output value of $71.6 million.
