The exhibition is divided into two parts. The "Charm of Flying Apsaras" section displays a variety of replicas of the caves, statues, murals, musical instruments and costumes of the Mogao Grottoes. In the second part, a large number of old photos and archives tell the stories behind the grottoes and the cultural relic protection personnel.
It took about three years from the planning and design to the implementation. The exhibition was first held at the Gansu Provincial Museum on June 13, 2020, before touring across the country. So far, it has made 33 stops and attracted more than 430,000 visitors.
Notably, the exhibition has received praise from teenagers for its innovative model of "exhibition plus public lecture".
