Qingyang

Qingyang, usually called “Longdong” and located in the east of Gansu Province, is at the intersection of the provinces of Shanxi, Gansu and Ningxia. The total area of 27,000 km2 covers one district and seven counties and housed a population of 2,278,800 at the end of 2019. It has the world’s largest, deepest and best preserved Loess Tableland which is renowned as “The first Loess Plateau in the world”. Qingyang has a rich reserve of oil, coal and natural gas and is set to become a large energy and chemical base.

Qingyang has profound farming culture. The area’s remote ancestor Zhou Buku taught folks how to grow and started the history of Chinese farming civilization. Qibo, the founder of traditional Chinese medicine, once discussed medicine with the Yellow Emperor and finally accomplished writing the classic Internal Medicine of the Yellow Emperor which is inscribed in Memory of the World Register by UNESCO. Qingyang has its own folk cultures such as Qingyang sachet, embroidery, folk paper-cutting and Taoism shadow play.

Qingyang is the birthplace of “Huanjiang pterosaur”, “Yellow River Ancient Elephant” and the site of the first Paleolithic relic ever unearthed. Qingyang enjoys the name of “Granary of Longdong” where early Chinese farming civilization was generated. Its produce, such as apples, daylilies, pumpkin seeds and minor cereals excel in quality and are renowned at home and abroad. Therefore, Qingyang is also reputed to be “Sacred Resource of Farming and Energy Capital”.
